Section 1A - How to write it

 Introduction

*Introduce Text A (Audience, purpose, mode)

*Use a comparative conjunction like ‘similarly…’

*Then introduce Text B (Audience, purpose, mode)

For your paragraphs, very similar.

*Write a multifunctional topic sentence, but this time make sure the point is COMPARATIVE. For example,

“By employing techniques of emotive language and a down-to-Earth sociolect, both speakers – Musk and Zuckerberg - craft identities of relatability with their specific audiences, in the hope that their presentation of self will resonate with the public to their advantage.

*Then analyse Text A, exactly as you did with Murph. Pick out quotes, analyse them with terms, and explain how these points link to the PURPOSE and AUDIENCE of the text.

Like this,

“Musk’s decision to use a hyperbolic colloquialism by stating that the new car is “So f**king radical” helps to craft his identity almost as if he is a fan of the brand rather than its CEO. The expletive adjective “f***king connotes a particular sense of excitement which, though many would find unsavoury for someone in a position of great authority, helps to build upon his global persona as an enthusiastic and innovative creator. Likewise, the low-frequency post-modifying adjective ‘radical’ suggests not only that the car is ground-breaking, but that Musk is drawing on stereotypes of the surfer/stoner community, suggesting that he is just as blown away by the innovation as the customers are. This would potentially appeal to fans of the Tesla brand who are used to seeing Musk as an individual who does not play by the normal rules, thus making them feel experimental themselves. This could well result in the car achieving even higher sales through the establishment of Musk’s excited persona.

*Then use comparative language, like this….

“Slightly differently, yet still constructing an identity of excitement and innovation, Zuckerberg can be seen to use….”

*Then analyse Text B in the same way as A.
